The missing door
The missing door (2013) was the first collaboration between Gabriela Carrizo and the dancers of NDTI. It premiered on December 6th, 2013 in Koninklijk Theater Carré in Amsterdam (NL). The piece was followed in 2015 by The lost room (Franck Chartier) and in 2017 by a new creation. The three pieces will tour The Netherlands in 2017 in a programme titled Adrift.
By intertwining fantasy and reality, Gabriela Carrizo shows two parallel dimensions in this creation. We are witnessing the last minutes of life, which take place in the twilight zone between life and death. The dying man anxiously tries to find a way through the intricate maze of his thoughts. While soundscapes of everyday sounds turn into lost rhythms, the man performs a lonely battle with time, space and those who are absent.
In 2015, The missing door toured The Netherlands and Belgium with The lost room and Stop-Motion (Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon) in the frame of Start-Again. The Belgian première took place on November 28th, 2015 at deSingel, Antwerp. In 2017, The missing door will be presented from August 21st to 23rd at the Edinburgh International Festival. It will also be a part of Adrift, which will premiere October 5th, 2017 in The Hague (NL).

Haarlems Dagblad on The missing door and The lost room 02.10.2015 (in Dutch)
"I have not seen any piece like it to date. [ ] I am not surprised NDT takes on an idea like this, and I doubt that any other group of dancers could have co-created the incredible spectacle we watched."
Bachtrack on The missing door 16.12.2013 (in English)
"A surreal thriller which makes 'Twin Peaks' feel like a walk in the park. [ ] Extraordinary how Carrizo depicts derailment in a physical way, touching upon our deepest fears and turning the whole into a hallucinatory trip.”
Trouw on The missing door 09.12.2013 (in Dutch)
"Carrizo doesn't just make dance theater, she makes a unique theater experience."
