Yi-Chun Liu (°1985, Taichung, Taiwan) begon te dansen toen ze 5 jaar oud was en studeerde af aan het prestigieuze College of Dance van de Taipei National University of the Arts in 2007. Ze kreeg een veelzijdige opleiding, waaronder klassieke westerse dans zoals ballet, moderne en hedendaagse danstechnieken, maar ook oosterse klassieke dans zoals Chinese opera en Kung-fu martial arts. Haar praktijk is diep geworteld in Tai-chi Dai-in en Countertechniek, maar heeft ook invloeden en methodes uit urban dance, mime en fysiek theater. Al meer dan dertig jaar ontwikkelt Yi-Chun een acuut bewustzijn van haar lichaam en de relatie tot ruimte en tijd, waardoor ze haar transformatieve bewegingskwaliteit ten volle kan verkennen.

In 2007 creëerde ze haar eerste opdrachtwerk Disappear op uitnodiging van het National Theater & Concert Hall of Taiwan en trad ze toe als danseres bij Cloud Gate Dance Theater in Taiwan. Daarna reisde ze naar Europa en danste onder andere bij Anouk van Dijk, Felix Landerer, Shang-Chi Sun, Ann Van den Broek en Scapino Ballet.

In 2013, Yi-Chun joined Peeping Tom as a dancer and performer. She has remained with the company, mainly as a co-creator and dancer, but also in various roles such as artistic assistant and costume designer. She was part of Father (2014), Mother (2016), Child (2019), The Missing Door (2013), The Lost Room (2015), The Hidden Floor (2017), Triptych / Diptych (2020), Dido & Aeneas (2020), La Visita (2021,2022), and S 62° 58′, W 60° 39′ (2023).

In 2022, she began a slow, ongoing collaboration with mezzo-soprano Eurudike De Beul on an intimate project BATH (working title). The project is a response to the sense of death that affected us all so deeply during the Covid pandemic. It is a socially oriented and participatory project that seeks spiritual connection and seeks to alleviate people's loneliness. The project is supported by Theater Walpurgis in Belgium and National Culture and Arts Foundation in Taiwan.

Yi-Chun was commissioned by Stadttheater Gießen Germany as a guest choreographer in 2023. Her final full-length work, Close to you (and think of the song), premiered on the main stage of the Stadttheater Gießen on May 4, 2024.
