Dag van de Dans 2021

For this year’s Dag Van De Dans (Day of the Dance), we’re taking things online again. Join us on Saturday 24 April 2021 for two exclusive and free online workshops! Peeping Tom dancers Maria Carolina Vieira and Lauren Langlois will take you into their creative processes, focusing on body, space and objects and on working with text and voice.

The workshops are now sold out!

11:30 – 13:30 CEST: Masterclass by Maria Carolina Vieira

In this online Masterclass, Peeping Tom performer Maria Carolina Vieira focuses on movement creation, expanding one’s physical experience through the relationship between body, space and objects. She will provide concepts and physical tasks so the participant can build his/her own movement research and imagery in the body. The space and its objects will give restrictions and possibilities, challenging the body to use its own intelligence and ability to create movement. The performers are invited to find the constructive side of “being stuck” and to be opened to surprise themselves with the adaptability of their bodies.

Maria Carolina Vieira joined Peeping Tom in 2012, to replace a departing member in 32 Rue Vandenbranden. She went on to create and perform in Vader (2014), Moeder (2016) and Kind (2019). Before her career as a dancer, Maria was an accomplished rhythmic gymnast, being part of the Olympic Brazilian Confederation Team at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. 15:00 – 17:00 CEST: Text for dancers: Tools and techniques on how to approach text for the stage by Lauren Langlois

In this two-hour workshop, Peeping Tom dancer Lauren Langlois will offer tools and techniques on how to approach written text for the stage. She will share her text from TRIPTYCH: The Lost Room and give insight into the process of bringing her character to life. In addition, you will access valuable information such as how to analyse a script, work with your voice, and how to deliver text in a believable way. Having performed in interdisciplinary works for over a decade, Lauren will help you to realise that the voice can be utilised just like any other muscle in the body.

Lauren Langlois joined Peeping Tom in 2020 for Triptych: The missing door, The lost room and The hidden floor. She studied classical ballet at the Marie Walton-Mahon Dance Academy in Sydney before training in contemporary dance at the New Zealand School of Dance. Lauren began her career with the Australian Dance Theatre from 2008-2010, performing and touring in two of the company’s major works G and Be Your Self. Read Lauren’s full biography.
