Character Development

This workshop dives into the intersection of dance and theatrical character. By exploring their own physicality, participants awaken unique theatrical identities rooted in the body. Expand, transform, twist and turn in this 5-day dance-theatre workshop by Hun Mok Jung (@jumokdance) and Brandon Lagaert (@brandonlagaert).

Each day will be divided in two parts, with Hun Mok taking charge of the morning program and Brandon taking charge in the afternoon.


"Character Rise" by Hun Mok Jung


This journey centers on the creation, development, construction, revelation, and sharing of one’s unique character. It seeks to maximize individual strengths through a theatrical vocabulary, drawing on the inherent qualities of each body, and to generate new physicality and energy through improvisation and research.

At the same time, it aims to awaken the formalized body by transforming it into a twisted and reshaped form, moving through processes of gathering, distillation, control, organization, expansion, and ultimately, explosion.


"Embodied Characters" by Brandon Lagaert


Drawing from a decade of professional dance-theatre experience working as a performer of Peeping Tom and as the director of his own dance-theatre company KAIHO, Brandon Lagaert’s masterclass explores the intersection of movement and theatrical character work. Participants will discover how to harness physical expression to build rich, multifaceted characters through a unique blend of dance and theatrical techniques.

  • The enhancement of theatrical physicality through props and costumes

This workshop is for semi-professional dancers, circus performers and actors with a background in movement.
