20 Years Peeping Tom
Peeping Tom is celebrating its 20th anniversary! In 1999, Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier – together with Eurudike De Beul – created Caravana. A year later, they officially founded Peeping Tom.

A look back at 20 years Peeping Tom
- 1999Gabriela Carrizo, Franck Chartier and Eurudike De Beul create Caravana, a location-based performance set in a mobilhome, with Lizi Estaras and Einat Tuchman. The piece was afterwards remade as Une Vie Inutile, with Lizi Estaras and Philippe Beloul.
- 2000Peeping Tom is founded.
- 2002Premiere of Le Jardin, the first piece for the theatre created by Peeping Tom. Longtime collaborator Simon Versnel joins the company.
- 2004Premiere of Le Salon, the second part of Peeping Tom’s first trilogy. For this production, Carrizo, Chartier, De Beul, and Versnel are joined by Samuel Lefeuvre.
- 2007Premiere of Le Sous Sol, the closing part of the first trilogy. 80-year-old Spanish-French butoh dancer Maria Otal joins Peeping Tom for this creation.2008Gabriela and Franck trade the stage for the director’s table. The cast is extended with Jos Baker, Marie Gyselbrecht, Seoljin Kim, Hun-mok Jung and Sabine Molenaar.
- 2009Premiere of 32 Rue Vandenbranden.
- 2010Maria Carolina Vieira joins Peeping Tom.
- 2011Premiere of A Louer.
- 2013Yichun Liu and Brandon Lagaert join Peeping Tom. Franck Chartier creates Vader with Peeping Tom, while Gabriela Carrizo heads to Nederlands Dans Theater for The missing door. Franck Chartier also creates 33 Rue Vandenbranden with the GöteborgsDanskompani.
- 2015Franck Chartier creates The lost room, a second short piece with NDT following The missing door. He wins the Swan for Best New Dance Production. Peeping Tom debuts in London with 32 Rue Vandenbranden and win an Olivier Award. Gabriela Carrizo creates The Land with Residenztheater Munich.
- 2016Premiere of Moeder, the second part of the family trilogy, directed by Gabriela Carrizo. For this piece, Charlotte Clamens joins the company.
- 2017Franck Chartier creates The hidden floor, the third collaboration between Peeping Tom and NDT. It earns him a nomination for the Swan Best New Dance Production in The Netherlands.
- 2018A second adaptation of 32 Rue Vandenbranden is born. 31 Rue Vandenbranden, directed by both Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier for the Opera de Lyon, opens the Biennale de la Danse de Lyon.
- 2019Premiere of Kind, the final part of the family trilogy, co-directed by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier. 32 Rue Vandenbranden takes its final bow at the BAM Festival in New York, Peeping Tom’s North-American debut. Peeping Tom moves to its own studio in Brussels.
- 2020Creation of Triptych, the adaptation of the three pieces previously created with NDT. For this new production, eight new dancers join the company: Lauren Langlois, Fanny Sage, Eliana Stragapede, Wan-Lun Yu, Konan Dayot, Fons Dhossche, Panos Malactos and Alejandro Moya. In Brussels, rehearsals start for Peeping Tom’s first opera, Dido & Aeneas, directed by Franck Chartier for the Opéra de Genève.
- 2021Premiere of Dido & Aeneas in Geneva. Creation of La Visita, our first location project in a museum, in collaboration with I Teatri di Reggio Emilia and the Collezione Maramotti. La Visita is also nominated for a Fedora Award in the category ballet.
